Homeschool --- and virtual too!--- is better when it's rooted in a community with heart.

Are you looking for secular homeschool co-op experience in Berks County, PA? Would you like to connect with other students and families in an inclusive and pressure free setting? While we fill our schedule with all kinds of wonderful classes and workshops on different subject matter that lets kids explore and develop themselves --- our primary goal has always been and will always be connection. There are so many positive things about learning at home at your own pace. But one of the negatives can be a feeling of isolation of difficulty and anxiety with connecting in a group. Our program is designed to bring families together to bond and learn and feel a part of something bigger than just their circle.

So many of our classes focus on things that help kids bond with each other or are richer when does as group! Things like science fairs, book clubs, playgroups, craft circles, and group service projects are a rich and rewarding addition to the content you provide at home!

Is this program right for me?

Here are the big questions that most people ask before deciding to join us.

Where are you located?

We meet in the Reading Area, just off of Skyline Drive.

We hold many of our classes in the best learning environment there is --- the outdoors!

(Some of our classes are cozier indoors. Especially  when the weather is chilly. )

We hold our classes at a welcoming and inclusive church that provides us with both indoor and outdoor spaces to host classes. Some of our classes are held indoors and are close to restroom facilities. Some of our classes are also conducted throughout the church's acreage and in and around their primitive cabin.

Address:

Zion Spies Lutheran Church

310 Spies Church Rd.

Reading, PA 19606

How much does the program cost?

No Registration Fees!

Each 7-week class costs from $25-75 depending on materials.

All prices for classes are listed when you sign up.

Discounts are available for members who help with the program. (You don't have to be able to attend on Tuesdays. Some members just help with fundraisers. We appreciate you no matter how you are able to support.)

We want to make sure that all kids can have a rewarding and social homeschooling (and virtual schooling) experience. We don't want to see anyone left out! If you would like to participate but the cost is prohibitive (especially with multiple kids) just let us know and we will be happy to work with you.

What is my commitment to participate?

We are happy to offer drop off to parents with new students who are 10+.

Parents with students 9 and under will need to stay while their students participate. We've got the teaching covered, but may ask parents to help out in small ways if they are able.

***Parents with students who are 10 and up can drop them off for the program. We also allow drop of for returning students who are 8+ as we are able to accommodate. ***

Who is this program for?

We invite people from all backgrounds to participate. We welcome all religions and ethnicities.

In order to be a welcoming place for all, we focus our interests on secular topics that all people can enjoy.

We welcome neurodivergent students.

We openly and lovingly accept the LGBTQ+ community.

*** We are a secular program, but our host site is an ELCA Lutheran Church. As such, you will see religious themed decorations and materials  in some parts of the building. We do not use any of these materials for our classes but are happy to coexist with them in the space we share. ***

When children are surrounded by curious and creative adults, they have their own inner genius sparked into action.
