Service Description

Participants Ages 8-12 Time: 11:00-12:00 Instructor: Rachel Klemmer and Erin Baker Come adventure with us as each week we read an excerpt from the classic children's book My Side Of The Mountain. Students will read or listen to a few chapters each week at home, then together we will have a picnic style book club to talk about themes and discussion questions for the chapters. Focus will be given to characterization, new vocabulary words, sequencing of events, compare contrast, prediction skills, figurative language, plot, and reading comprehension questions. But we can't let our story's main character have all the fun! Each week we will also participate in wild-crafting and art projects that bring the story home and capture the adventurous world we are exploring. Please join us even if you have already read the book. Students who have already read My Side of the Mountain will still benefit from our book study and just be ahead each week in the reading! ***Summary pages to include in your student's portfolio from the courses activities will be provided.
